We looked all around New Haven before we found the Livingston. The landlord agreed to show the apartment to us on a day that worked best for me and my boyfriend (we were starting a post-grad program at Yale).
The building is clean (but I hated that the maintenance man vacuumed on the weekends - he could have done it during the week when everyone is at school/work!).
The owner always answered our questions or concerns within 24 hours (never had that happen before!) and her daughter lives in the building so you know that if anything goes wrong she'll fix it right away!
Rent was reasonable and we didn't pay for heat during the winter - a huge bonus! They are fun - they always decorate for the holidays! I was sad to leave...
This is an amazing apartment, all of our grad school friends agree it's among the best in our program. And we looked at 14 apartments before moving here and this was far and away the best. Huge space, great light, nice details like molding around the doors and windows and a fireplace.
The biggest issue is with noise. The upstairs neighbors are horrible, have no concept of how loud they are and are a frequent (almost nightly) annoyance. There's also a construction project on the house next door, which our back windows overlook. It's been going on all year and we are occasionally woken by drilling, sawing, etc. before 8 am on weekdays and even some Saturdays.
